Liliput 852 Ensemble of Br52 2-10-0 in DRB Wehrmacht Camouflaged Epoch ii Livery

  •

This listing is for a fine model ensemble from Liliput-Wien. The locomotive is a Br52 2-10-0, and the entire ensemble is in a camouflaged, Wehrmacht-dedicated Epoch ii livery. This unit is the wartime version of the einheitslokomotiven of the 50 Class. It is a very nice model. The ensemble includes one Br52 locomotive, two open flat wagons, one Oppeln goods van, and one G10 goods van with a brakeman’s shelter. The wagons are all in excellent condition, nearly like new. The Oppeln has NEM pockets. All of the various accoutrements that Liliput included have already been added to the models, as they are no longer in the packaging. I bought this ensemble used, about ten or eleven years ago. I tested the locomotive for this listing. It is necessary for me to describe the results of the tests. The model had not been operated since 2020, when I ran-in most of my equipment during the lockdowns (didn’t we all?). While the rest of the ensemble is in remarkable condition, the locomotive is a bit tired. I noticed that it is missing a couple of handwheels and some of the detail items are troubled. However, it does have Liliput buckle hook couplers applied fore and aft, and bears the cool snowplow pilot of the wartime DRB. When running the locomotive for the listing, it initially had some delays. I benchtested the unit and it performed well; however, with the running, there was something amiss. The unit is tender-driven. I think that the traction tires on the powered tender axles are loose and causing a bit of slippage. I have experienced this before with other Liliput-Wien models. I do not have any 10mm traction tires in my parts bin, so I was not able to verify my hypothesis. I have also encountered problems in the gear tower of Liliput-Wien wannentenders. I did not investigate this with this model, and did not disassemble the unit. If the gear tower is the issue, then it is an easy fix. In any case, I let the unit run for about half an hour. Its performance greatly improved with the running time. Perhaps, new traction tires and a bit of grease in the gear towers is all that is required, of which I have neither to add prior to listing. Additionally, there seems to be a very visible blemish on the port side of the tender. Please review the photos. As I looked at it though, it seems like it might be part of the “weathering” from Liliput. I could not tell with my fingertips. All said, I think that this is an excellent ensemble, though the locomotive would need some more running-in, and some TLC, as our American friends say. It is a great model of a favorite prototype and I hate to have to sell it, if that tells you of my confidence in the unit.
