Externally, the RS-2 bodywork was more rounded. Compared to the 539, it had a smaller cylinder and higher cylinder speed. Eight of the ALCO RS-2s were exported to Canada. ALCO built the RS-2 to compete with EMD, Fairbanks-Morse, and Baldwin Locomotive Works.
In 1950, Fairbanks-Morse introduced the 1,600 hp (1.2 MW) H-16-44, while Baldwin introduced the 1,600 hp (1.2 MW) Baldwin AS-16. ALCO’s 1,500 hp (1.1 MW) line was the RS-2, although 31 were built in 1950 with 1,600 hp (1.2 MW).

It does have DCC and sound, it’s equip with a soundtraxxLC decoder with a speaker off amazon (the original one got burned out I guess) which can be replaced with any other better speaker with a simple re-solder job.
THE MODEL HAS BEEN RENUMBERED FROM 1814. THE LIGHTING IS ALL LED’S. I REPLACED THE FACTORY AXLE GEARS WITH ATHEARN ATH-60024 AXLE GEARS. THIS SHOULD ELIMINATE CRACKED GEARS FOR THE NEXT 20-30 YEARS (ATHEARN RELIABILITY!).
