OverviewDuring the 2003 Invasion of Iraq the U.S. deployed its latest M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks and these continued to be used in Iraq during the subsequent occupation period. Due to the threats posed by RPGs and improvised explosive devices IEDs in the urban environments the tanks were upgraded with more protection in the form of Tank Urban Survival Kits TUSK I in 2004. The upgrade included features such as reactive armor on the hull sides hull underside armor to protect against land mines an M2 machine gun mounted above the main gun barrel infrared cameras for the crew and an external telephone for communication with accompanying infantry.

Overview The USS Missouri BB-63 was the third ship of the Iowa-class and was commissioned in 1944. During the Pacific War she supported attacks on Kyushu and Okinawa and then participated in actions such as the bombardment of Muroran in Hokkaido. It is a well-known fact that the signing ceremony of Japan”s surrender documents took place on the Missouri”s decks on September 3 1945. Following the end of the the Missouri was mothballed at the reserve fleet anchorage but was refitted with various modern equipment to rejoin the U.S. Navy in 1986. Following Iraq”s invasion of Kuwait the Missouri and her sister ship Wisconsin were deployed to the Middle East and she helped conduct the first firing of Tomahawk cruise missiles in combat during the opening stages of the Gulf War.

Overview Design of the M48 series of medium tanks commenced in October 1950 with the Chrysler Corporation commissioned to do the design work and provide six prototypes. Due to the production of the M48 was authorized prior to the completion of any prototype or testing. Ford and General Motors were awarded production contracts in addition to Chrysler and the first M48 was delivered in early 1953. Numerous technical problems with the new tank delayed its deployment in significant numbers until 1958. There are numerous variations and modifications of the M48 in existence all over the world today and this kit depicts an M48A3 “Patton” as it appeared during the Vietnam conflict when employed by the U.S. Forces.

Knowing that patrolling coastal and river waterways during a conflict in Vietnam was going to be extremely hazardous the U.S. Navy searched for a boat design that could be quickly produced and employed. One chosen was a fiberglass-hulled pleasure craft built by Modutec Marine in Seattle Washington. The Patrol Boat River or PBR as it was known militarily became one of the most successful weapons systems used in Southeast Asia. It was 31″ 11″ long 11 7″ wide and 9″9″ high above the waterline. It displaced 8 3/4 tons loaded drawing two feet of water. It’s crew of four was armed with a pair of .50 cal gun or grenade launcher mounted on a tripod in the fantail plus a single M-60 on a pipe mount bolted to one of the amidships splinter shields.
