The passenger cars, manufactured by Athearn, are in good, complete condition. Prior to that, the NKP had never owned a locomotive that deviated from the norm. With the Berkshire, the NKP acquired a machine perfectly suited to its needs; in fact, virtually all 2-8-4 locomotives built subsequently were based on the successful design of the 700 series.
