Locomotive 18 314 followed a special path in life. Originally built for the Baden state railway as IVh, the 18 314 still ran for the DRG in the Rhine Valley during Era II. After the war it was intended for decommissioning, but at the instigation of the railway engineer Max Baumberg it went to the DR in exchange for the 18 434.
